Following months of public input and planning, the state Public Regulation Commission last year approved adding a new area code to meet an increasing demand for telephone numbers. New Mexico now has two area codes – 505 and 575. Which one applies to you? That depends on where you live. On this site, you’ll find maps marking areas of the state that have been assigned the new area code. You’ll also find news releases, frequently asked questions and contact information for the PRC and telecommunications companies involved in the transition to the new area code.

The Public Regulation Commission is responsible for ensuring that New Mexicans have access to reliable and affordable telecommunications services, and the agency is committed to a smooth and successful transition to the new 575 area code.  Please feel free to call us at 1-888-4ASK-PRC with additional questions. We look forward to assisting you in any way we can.
